Incorrect slow speeds

Set your shutter to 1 second and fire the shutter. You should hear a smooth clockwork like noise from when the shutter opens until it closes. If the shutter stays open for more than 1 second it is likely that the slow speed escapement needs servicing. Your Pentax K1000 will need a full service which costs £90 and includes the replacement of the light seals.

Light meter not working

the Pentax K1000 has a built in, battery powered light meter. Corrosion from leaked battery acid can often cause them to be inoperable. The cost of replacing and resoldering the damaged wiring is £40.

Desilvered prism repair

Cost = £30 for the part + labour (£30)

The prism inside the Pentax K1000 is topped with foam, over time as this degrades it can damage the silver coating of the prism. You may see a black fungus like growth through the viewfinder that indicates that your prism has desilvered. This is more common in the Chinese made Pentax K1000's which can be identified as they do not have "Asahi" written above Pentax on the top plate.

While this does not impact the camera's function it can become distracting while trying to focus the camera. The best course of action is to replace the prism as a whole and remove/replace any foam to prevent any damage to the new prism.

Fitting replacement light seals

If you would like the light seals replaced on your Pentax K1000 this will cost £25. If your camera is already in for a repair the cost will be lower.

Replacement leather finish

We also offer a replacement leather finish service which costs £40 for a Pentax K1000. If your camera is already in for a repair the cost will be lower.
