Troubleshooting:
Incorrect slow speeds
Set your shutter to 1 second and fire the shutter. You should here a smooth clockwork like noise from when the shutter opens until it closes. If the shutter stays open for more than 1 second it is likely that the slow speed escapement needs servicing.
Shutter will not fire
If after cocking the shutter it will not fire, or the shutter blades do not open, it is likely that the shutter blades are contaminated with oil. This is a common issue with older cameras caused by oil migrating from other areas of the camera. The shutter needs to be disassembled and the individual blades cleaned.
Self timer is stuck
If you have set your self timer and now the shutter does not fire it is likely that the self timer mechanism needs to be repaired. Please do not try and force the self timer lever, this can cause more damage to the mechanism and make repairing it more difficult.
Copal Shutter Servicing
If your camera has any of the issues listed above then you will need to have the shutter serviced this typically costs £120. During servicing the shutter is dismantled, cleaned and adjusted. The slow speed escapement and self timer go through a 3 stage ultrasonic bath. The shutter blades are also removed and individually cleaned to remove any contaminants.
New Mirrors
The mirrors used in TLRs for viewing your composition as vulnerable to damage from fungus, dirt or simply due to their age. We have a stock of brand new replacement mirrors that can be fitted to a range of different models.
Cost: Part (£25) + Labour (£15)
New front leather
The leather on the front of your camera will need to be removed so that the shutter can be accessed. We try out best to preserve the original finish as best we can but sometimes it is not possible. We can fit new pre-cut leather finishes for £25
Light meter repairs
Models such as the Yashica Mat 124G have built in, battery powered light meters. Corrosion from leaked battery acid can often cause them to be inoperable. We are able to clean the battery contacts and replace any damaged wiring. Typically this will cost around £60 but we are unable to provide an exact quote until we can see the internal damage.
