Incorrect shutter speeds

Set your shutter to 1 second and fire the shutter. You should hear a smooth clockwork like noise from when the shutter opens until it closes. If the shutter stays open for more than 1 second it is likely that the slow speed escapement needs servicing. During servicing the slow speed escapement and self timer go through a 3 part ultrasonic clean before being relubricated.

A full service of a Pentax KM costs £120 and includes the replacement of the light seals.

Light meter not working

The Pentax KM has a built in, battery powered light meter. Corrosion from leaked battery acid can often cause them to be inoperable. The cost of replacing and resoldering the damaged wiring is £50.

Stuck self timer

If the self timer on your Pentax KM is jammed its important not to force the mechanism as this can cause more damage. Repairing the self timer costs £40 during which the mechanism will go through a 3 part ultrasonic clean before being relubricated.

Fitting replacement light seals

If you would like the light seals replaced on your Pentax KM this will cost £40. If your camera is already in for a repair the cost will be lower.

Replacement leather finish
